1. A Compact Video Camera: I brought a Sony Mini DV video camera. Also bring at least two extra batteries for your camera and an adapter for your charger. Of course bring lots and lots of tape. It’s a good idea to make sure everyone who is traveling knows how to operate the camera. The video you take of your new child will be priceless and will be something you and your family will watch over and over again.
2. A Good Auto Focus Camera: I didn’t bring an extra camera. I pulled pictures off my video. If I went again I would bring a small auto focus digital or a one-time use camera to take some still photos at a higher quality then a pictures from a video. |

3. Medicines: Here is a partial list of what we brought to China. It’s only partial because my wife tried to bring a small pharmacy with us.
a.Tylenol, Motrin, aspirin.
b. Antacids or anti-heartburn medicines.
c. Immodium for diarrhea.
d. Cipro for what might come along.
e. Bactrim or Septra for urinary tract infection.
f. Insect Repellent for bugs that may fly by.
g. Sun Block for you and baby.
h. Antihistamine for that nose.
i. Lotrimin for fungal diaper rashes on baby and for foot fungus on you.
j. Antibiotic Ointments for you and baby.
k. Prunes, we ended up sharing these with many in our group.

4. Other medications like anti-malarials check with your doctor and visit the CDC Website for more information. Split up your medication, put them in several different pieces of luggage. You never know. Don’t forget any personal prescriptions, and we also brought a few syringes just in case they were needed.
5. Phone Numbers: Bring the phone number of your pediatrician, family doctor and possibly an expert in adoption care from Asia. You can call home for medical advice. We call home for medical advice when our daughter developed rash over about 90% of her face. Our doctor gave us sound advice and put our minds as ease.
6. More Numbers: Take the phone numbers of your Congressperson and both Senators. Before you leave send them your itinerary and agency information.

7. Pedialyte: In case of diarrhea to replace electrolytes.

11. Toilet Paper
12. Small Stroller
13. Burp Clothes
14. Bottles and Nipples
15. Baby Wipes
16. Diaper Rash Cream
17. Baby soap and Shampoo
18. Diaper Bag & Changing Pad
19. Baby Clothes, hats, sleepers, socks, soft shoes, dresses, blankets, etc. |

20. Rolling Luggage: bags with shoulder straps or backpacks. Make your trip as easy as possible. Very important to remember, pack lightly, pack lightly, pack lightly, you can get buy with very little clothes. You'll appreciate the extra room for orphanage gifts, gifts for family, camera, film etc.
21. Books & Puzzles: For the long flight over, you'll not need them for the flight back. I read Harry Potter on the way over and havn't read many books since. Also a great number placing logic game is Su Doku, give it a try, however be pre-warned it's addicting.
22.A Smile: At time you can get frustrated, it's best to keep a positive attitude and a smile, remember the big picture and let the other frustration roll off your back. |
